As wedding planners, we get asked about our own weddings A LOT!
“Did you have fun planning your own wedding rather than someone else’s for once?”
“Would you change anything about your wedding looking back?”
“With having so many options available to you being in the event industry, how did you choose where you wanted to get married and what you wanted to do?!”
So, in honor of our recent anniversaries (2 years for Lindsay on June 27th and 5 years for Kimberly on June 30th!), we wanted to give you a peek into our wedding days and what inspired us to make each of our days unique and special!

Kimberly:: The Depot was the only place I wanted to get married... (I had decided this even before I met my husband, Rob!). When I started a job just across the street from the Depot the week I first moved to Minneapolis, I was always fascinated to see the different events that took place there each week. The history of the space and it’s significance to Minneapolis combined with the wide open, industrial architecture was absolutely perfect for the vision I always had in mind. A big, blank canvass! Not to mention the fact that it was one of the only spaces in the city large enough to accommodate my massive extended family:) Our ceremony took places in the Great Hall ballroom, and our reception was held just across the hall in the historic Pavilion train shed!
Lindsay:: My husband and I decided to have a destination wedding in Ravello, Italy. Being a wedding planner myself, I wanted to give myself a “challenge” when planning my own wedding. It helps that as a couple we constantly have a bad case of wanderlust and have a true passion for traveling around the world. Having attended and planned a few destination weddings already, I knew the advantages: all our closest friends and family, a spectacular location and authentic details we wouldn’t get at home. Our venue Villa Eva, was set high atop a mountainside along Italy’s Amalfi Coast with sprawling views of the ocean -- a true dream!
K:: Bright, bold, fun & modern, with a touch of sparkle! I had way too much fun planning our all of my decor elements:) Colbalt blue, my favorite color, was what I used to build everything around, accenting with silver, grass green (including hundreds of little pots of real grass that I grew!), red, royal purple and a little fuschia and orange. Really, the only color I avoided was yellow. Clean lines, simple but unique floral, lots of uplighting and candles pulled it all together. I wanted the reception to feel like a cool, industrial lounge that transformed into a chic nightclub after dinner-- and I think I achieved that!
L:: My vision for our wedding was for it to be intimate and romantic with a touch of glamour! I paired blush, gold and navy blue to achieve this look with lots of candles, peonies (of course!) and a few sequin linens! A close friend and fantastic designer created beautiful paper peony place cards, ceremony program fans and “Welcome to Ravello” screen printed welcome bags with lemons as Ravello (and the Amalfi Coast) is known for their lemons! Limoncello, lemon gelato, lemon infused pasta -- you name it!
MAKING IT PERSONAL
K:: Our theme was “Welcome to MPLS,” because we really wanted to show our guests about the city where we were making our home together (as neither of us originally grew up here). We had guests fly and drive in from all over the country, so for many people, this was one of their first times in Minneapolis! We assembled MN themed welcome bags guests received when they arrived filled with our favorite local treats, and each dinner table was named after one of our favorite places in the city (paired with photos of us visiting each place as part of the centerpiece).
We also wrote our own ceremony from scratch and had a friend officiate, so the personal stories and music performed throughout the ceremony by 5 of our crazy talented friends and family members were 100% tailored to us and exactly what we found most important.
One of my favorite elements was the “Putt & Kiss” we rolled out of the dance floor during dinner-- we both adore golf, so if guests wanted us to kiss, they had to come sink a shot on our putting green! If they missed, they had to find someone to kiss instead. It was a huge hit!
L:: We really wanted our wedding to evoke everlasting memories for our guests and to incorporate the authentic Italian experience in every detail! We started off our wedding weekend with a welcome dinner at an authentic Napoli pizzeria where we handed out our ‘Welcome to Ravello” gift bags with lots of local treats and goodies! The next day we took our guests on a boat cruise along the Amalfi Coast to the quaint town of Positano for a gelato pit stop (my husband’s favorite), followed by our rehearsal dinner in the small town of Maiori at an ancient tower the “Torre Normanna” which was built in 1250.
One of the best details of our wedding day was just moments after saying “I do”, an authentic Neapolitan musical duo led us through the tiny streets of Ravello, right into the town square where our closest friends and family toasted to our new married life and showered us with confetti! Other standout details for us included a private “getaway” vespa ride, writing our own vows, and quite possibly the best part of the day was having Michael’s father perform our ceremony. It made it so personal and we loved having such a close family member pronounce us husband and wife!
IF YOU COULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN, WOULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING?
K:: I can honestly say I wouldn’t change anything! I was too busy running around talking to people that I didn’t even eat dinner… so maybe I would try to sit down and relax a bit more… but that’s all! No regrets whatsoever. We still have friends and family tell us it was one of the best weddings they have ever been to, even 5 years later, so I think we did something right!
L:: Not one thing! It was one of the most magical days of my life and I definitely get “all the feels” watching our wedding video! I’m already trying to convince my husband we need to go back to Ravello for our 3rd Anniversary! :)It is true what everyone says about your wedding day and how it goes by in a flash! Try to soak in every single moment and let any worries go the minute you are walking back down that aisle as husband and wife!
